Vancouver’s Chinese Tea Shop
You might think you know tea, and more importantly the process of serving it skillfully, but I speculate tea drinkers of all levels would be pleasantly informed at Vancouver's Chinese Tea Shop.
The first time I went in the shop, I was stopping in to pick up an infuser, and I knew immediately I had entered a new world. A friendly greeting by Daniel, who was educating an eager listener over a cup of tea, invited me to pull up a stool.
About 90 minutes later I realized I knew nothing about Gung Fu Cha, or the skill of mastering tea and tea service. I was sold, so Daniel was a successful educator as well as business person, I walked out with a Yixing teapot, a fair cup, and some tea.
I went in again this weekend with the intent on a quick purchase, and I was still there 20 minutes after close still sipping tea and this time trying a 30yo rare Iron Buddha Oolong -- roasted by hand over charcoal every 3 years, that tasted like chocolate.
It's really an experience you should try for yourself. Note they're only open from 13:00-18:00, every day except for Tuesday, and it's reasonable to spend more than 30 minutes tasting, so schedule your visit appropriately. You can find more information on The Chinese Tea Shop website.
